For a school project, I teamed up with one of my classmate to create a promotional video for the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival (NIFFF), inspired by the work of George Méliès and the festival's atmosphere. Our task was to promote this year's edition of the festival with a nod to Méliès. From ideation to post-production, we handled every aspect of the project ourselves, including filming, editing, sound design, and color correction.
In the video, everything goes well until the person next to our protagonist wants to steal their popcorn during the projection. They duplicates the popcorn and passes it to their neighbor, only to discover that his neighbor and the entire cinema are now full of duplicates of himself. The popcorn continues to be duplicated from person to person, creating a surreal and whimsical atmosphere that captures the spirit of both Méliès and the NIFFF.
We first did some test shots in the school’s video and then decided to bring our vision to life and filmed the video at the ABC Cinema in La Chaux-de-Fonds. With our video, we aimed to capture the playful, imaginative spirit of the NIFFF and encourage viewers to attend this year's festival.
